...a Metro Early College Learning Experience

  • Focuses on math and engineering
  • Housed in The Ohio State University’s Welding Engineering research area of EWI (Edison Welding Institute),
  • Continues study of math and engineering studies through Ohio State University courses
  • University courses are enhanced by hands on research, engineering internships and frequent contact with engineering students and engineers employed at EWI.

The Metro design process:

College coursework connected to Design Early College Experiences:

Engineering 181 & 183; Calculus 151 & 152

Internship opportunities:

EWI – Students observe research being conducted by welding engineers, study materials joining processes and design signs that explain the welding processes in lay terms for 98 pieces of welding equipment.

OSU ElectroScience Laboratory – Using specialized software, students develop computer models to study electrical engineering.  The current student is developing computer models of the electrical systems in a jet engine.

OSU Center for Automotive Research – The EcoVUE team at OSU is a student project that is re-engineering a Saturn VUE into a hybrid electric vehicle for a three year competition sponsored by General Motors and the U.S. Department of Energy.  Metro’s student works with one of the OSU student teams working on the development of this hybrid automobile.
