About Bodies

  • Focuses on the life sciences, particularly on the human body, its components and its functions
  • Housed at COSI in partnership with The Ohio State University’s Labs of Life
  • High School coursework in Wellness (physical education and health), and Biomedical Engineering
  • Potential to earn college credit through Project Lead The Way’s Biomedical Engineering class

The Bodies Program was created to provide a rigorous early-college programmatic option in the biomedical sciences for accelerated high school juniors and seniors. Our mission is to engage, challenge, and develop high-achieving young professionals through exposure to the biomedical science field. The program is a partnership between Metro Early College High School and Westerville City Schools.

The Bodies Program is a full-year, early college STEM program in which high school seniors are engaged as emerging professionals in the biomedical field. Bodies meets from 7:25 – 10:48 each morning at Westerville Central High School. During the fall and winter quarters, Bodies students complete two activity-based (Project Lead the Way®) biomedical sciences classes concurrently with Biology 113 and 114 at The Ohio State University. In the spring, each student engages in a 12-week undergraduate research position with a professional in the biomedical field. A scientific writing course is interlaced throughout the year-long curriculum.

Bodies students complete service learning at the Ohio Health system of hospitals, and are offered the opportunity to study global health issues through an additional OSU seminar course. Students who participate in the seminar are able to travel to either China or Costa Rica with the Bodies Program in the summer to study global health issues in the field.
